Feeding Futures has officially launched its newest school meals programme at Osembo Primary School, and the response has been extraordinary. With over 1,100 children, Osembo is our largest school to date – and the community is already showing strong signs of ownership and engagement.
By October 2025 the water harvesting, kitchen and store infrastructure is all in place ready for the kitchen opening in January 2026. The project launch meeting in June drew nearly 700 parents, an unprecedented turnout that reflects the success of our clergy-led mobilisation strategy. Pastors played a key role in encouraging attendance and have since formed a committee to support the programme.
School leadership, particularly Head Teacher Mary, has demonstrated exceptional commitment. The school shamba (farm) is already planted with maize and beans, and over 100 parents signed up for training in the first week and turnout has been increasing. Urban farming techniques like sack and vertical gardens are being introduced to maximise space and participation.
Osembo’s early momentum is encouraging. With strong leadership, community buy-in, and a clear plan for sustainability, this programme is off to a great start.
